Its nearly impossible to sneak up on a sleeping deer - prey animals, they constantly monitor their surroundings. They tend to doze rather than sleep - typically 30 seconds to a few minutes of dozing, followed by a brief alert period, then more dozing followed by an alert period. This often lasts for about 30 minutes then the deer will stand and stretch before lying back down.
